What happens on the camp.
Three weeks at Magwagwaza Secondary School, run twice a year. Participants build working web projects from the first week rather than studying theory for the first two.
The camp covers the foundations of the web, HTML, CSS and JavaScript, then moves to version control and deployment, so that participants finish with something they can show an employer rather than a certificate. All work is submitted through AISTLearn, the AIST learning platform, so that code can be reviewed properly and feedback stays attached to the work.
It is delivered by AISTcode, the AIST subsidiary that builds and runs the organisation's own systems. The people teaching it maintain the software AIST depends on, so the material is what they actually use.
Two camps, two audiences.
June camp
Open to the wider community. Suited to anyone over 18 looking for a technical skill, whether or not they are studying.
December camp
For school-leavers who have just written matric. It runs in the gap between the final examination and university registration, when most participants are waiting on results.
